'Over the Hill' depicts the times spent with my wife Pat exploring Britain's beautiful countryside. You simply can't beat getting away from the bustle of city and forgetting the stresses of day-to-day life. It's just us, our dogs, the open countryside and one adventure after another.

I had often wanted to put together an album of images from our walks and when another photographer suggested I look at Bob Books I was very interested to check them out. I could not believe the incredibly low cost of producing a bespoke hardback book - I saw an amazing opportunity to create something really special. Compiling Over the Hill became an adventure in itself. It was to be a Christmas present for my wife so the whole project became a covert, undercover mission with many a late night pouring over hundreds of photographs.

I also loved the opportunity to mix professionally composed images with more personal, point and shoot photographs. Ironic really that after 20 years of shooting on Hasselblads and Nikons, the book that has won 'book of the month' for us was shot almost entirely on our Lumix point and shoot.

My thanks to the long suffering Kylie at Bob Books for putting up with my desire to achieve perfection and of course to my wife for always waiting while I compose just one more shot.

  • tuppers Hi John and thanks for the comment on my book. I really enjoyed going through your book too and looking at it, it seemed to have the same basic sentiment as mine... Claire and I cant help but take pictures wherever we are, both of the location and of each other! I hope that we are still at it when we are "Over the Hill!" Thanks again, Paul (November)
